Guest Instructor - Nick Folk
Nick Folk has proven himself a master of his craft at the wheel of Folk Family Racing Machines. Nick, a two-time IHRA World Champion, is a 19-time national event winner in NHRA and IHRA competition. Nick is a 9-time divisional champion, and has accumulated wins in seemingly every major big dollar bracket event in the country. He races under the Folk Race Cars umbrella, a “traveling circus” established by his father Ron. Father, son, and brother (Brian Folk) have each established themselves as premier drivers in various sportsman racing vehicles.
Nick earned his first world championship in the Top Dragster category in 2003, and followed it up with a Stock title in 2008. From 2003 to 2007 Nick compiled an incredible five straight seasons in which he placed in the top ten in IHRA national standings in both Top Dragster and Stock Eliminator. With all those accolades already under his belt, 2009 proved to be Nick’s most successful season to date.
That year, Nick accumulated five IHRA pro-am victories to dominate the Division 5 Stock standings, winning in a landslide. He added three IHRA national event triumphs in Stock and Super Stock, along with an NHRA title in Super Comp. As if that weren’t enough, Nick also appeared in major big dollar bracket final rounds at the World Super Pro Challenge (Stanton, MI), the 7-11 Hi-Rollers Shootout (Union Grove, WI), and each stop of the annual winter series events in Valdosta, GA, Bradenton, FL and West Palm Beach.
He continued that run in 2010 with a third consecutive IHRA Division 5 title in Stock Eliminator. He added a victory at the IHRA Northern Nationals, and a handful of big dollar bracket wins including a $5,000 triumph at the PBIR 5-Day event.
Last season, Folk was a constant terror along the NHRA, IHRA, and big buck bracket tours. He finished the season ranked 2nd to Jody Lang in the BTE Power Rankings on ThisIsBracketRacing.com (his second top five finish in the rankings, as he finished 5th in 2009 as well) on the strength of: An NHRA national event victory (Norwalk, S/C) and runner-up (Brainerd, Stock); 2 IHRA Nitro Jam wins (West Palm Beach, Stock and US 131, Quick Rod); an NHRA LODRS title (Earlville, TD); and big buck bracket final rounds at the World Super Pro Challenge ($50k runner-up), Million Dollar Race ($20k winner), Bradenton 5-Day Championships, and more.
ThisIsBracketRacing.com is proud to add Nick Folk to our fantastic list of guest instructors with his April 2012 column titled “How I Won It (Race to the Million $20,000 bracket race).
